regular astigmatism
that in which the refraction changes gradually in power from one principal meridian of the eye to the other, with the two
meridians always at right angles. This type is further classified as being either against the rule (with the meridian of greatest refractive power approaching the horizontal), with the rule (with that meridian approaching the vertical), or oblique (with that meridian approximately 45 degrees from the horizontal and vertical).
