d- abbreviation for dextro- (right or clockwise); a chemical prefix indicating an enantiomer that rotates the plane of polarization of a beam of light in the clockwise direction, the other enantiomer being specified as l- (for levo-). The prefixes d- and l- are now being replaced by (+)- and (−)-, respectively, especially when the prefixes D- and L- are also used; for example, l-fructose is D-(−)-fructose.
