pl. spermatozoŽa
a mature male germ cell, the specific output of the testes; sperm fertilizes the mature oocyte in sexual reproduction. It is microscopic in size, resembles a translucent tadpole, and has a flat, oval-shaped head and a long tail by which it
propels itself with a vigorous lashing movement. Spermatozoa are produced in the seminiferous tubules of the testes. adj., spermatozoŽal., adj.
