femur (fe´mәr) pl. fem´ora, femurs the thigh bone, extending from the pelvis to the knee. It is the longest and strongest bone in the body. Its upper end fits into the acetabulum, a cup-like cavity in the pelvic girdle. The two prominances on the upper end are called the greater and lesser trochanters. thigh.
