sweat
(swet)
the salty fluid, consisting largely of water, excreted by the sweat glands to cool the skin and keep the body temperature at a constant level. In an environment with a high temperature, during strenuous exertion, or in times of unusual emotional
stress, the sweat output of the body may be more than several liters a day. Even on a cool day without exertion or emotional
stress, the body loses more than a pint of fluid in sweat. This latter kind of sweating is known medically as insensible water loss), because it is virtually unnoticeable. Called also perspiration.
night sweats
sweating during sleep, a symptom frequently occurring in tuberculosis and the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
