botulinal toxinbotulinum toxinbotulinus toxin one of seven different exotoxins (types A to G) produced by Clostridium botulinum; they are all neurotoxins and are usually found in imperfectly canned or preserved foods. They cause botulism by preventing release of acetylcholine by the cholinergic fibers. Type A is administered therapeutically by injection to relieve muscle spasms and to treat wrinkles of the face. Called also botulin.
