spinal tuberculosis skeletal tuberculosis of the vertebral column, with osteitis or cavities; characteristics include back stiffness, pain on movement, tenderness on pressure, prominence of certain vertebral spines, and occasionally abdominal pain, abscess formation, and paralysis. Called also Pott disease and tuberculous spondylitis.
