tympanoplasty (tim´pә-no-plas″te) plastic reconstruction of the auditory ossicles of the middle ear to create a continuity of their chain from the tympanic membrane to the oval window. This is done when chronic infection or a tumor has led to destruction of the ossicles, of the petrous part of the temporal bone, or both. adj., tympanoplas´tic., adj.
