melanosis (mel″ә-no´sis)   disordered melanin production, with darkening of the skin; called also melanism.
  a disorder of pigment metabolism.
 

melanosis coli  brown or black discoloration of the mucosa of the colon due to pigment from cathartics that has leaked into the lamina propria.
