glanders
(glanĀ“dәrz)
a disease of horses that is communicable to humans, caused by Pseudomonas mallei; it is marked by a purulent inflammation of the mucous membranes and an eruption of nodules on the skin that coalesce and
break down, forming deep ulcers, which may end in necrosis of cartilage and bones. The more chronic and constitutional form
is known as farcy.
