glomerulus (glo-merŽu-lәs) pl. glomerŽuli  Latin word meaning small tuft or cluster. In anatomy, it is used to name such a structure, such as one made up of a mass of capillaries. adj., glomerŽular., adj.
 

renal glomerulus  a network of tufts of blood vessels within the kidney. It is enclosed by the malpighian capsule and is an integral part of the nephron (the the basic structural unit of the kidney—each kidney contains about one million nephrons). The function of the glomerulus is to bring blood and the waste products it carries to the nephron for filtration.
