cyclic guanosine monophosphate a cyclic nucleotide, guanosine 3′,5′-cyclic monophosphate, an intracellular “second messenger” similar in action to cyclic adenosine monophosphate; the two cyclic nucleotides activate different protein kinases and usually produce opposite effects on cell function.
