hematocrit (he-matīә-krit) the volume percentage of erythrocytes (packed red blood cells) in whole blood, determined by centrifuging a blood sample to separate the cellular elements from the plasma. The results of the test indicate the ratio of cell volume to plasma volume. Called also packed-cell volume. the procedure used to determine this percentage.
