ibuprofen (i″bu-pro´fәn) a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug used as an analgesic and antipyretic and for symptomatic relief of dysmenorrhea, vascular headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and other rheumatic and nonrheumatic inflammatory disorders. It is similar in action to aspirin but less apt to cause gastrointestinal side effects.
