bromocriptine (bro″mo-krip´tēn) an ergot alkaloid that acts as a dopamine agonist; used as the mesylate salt to suppress prolactin secretion in the treatment of pituitary prolactinomas and of hyperprolactinemia-associated amenorrhea, galactorrhea, infertility, or male hypogonadism. It is also used as an antidyskinetic, usually in conjunction with levodopa, in the treatment of parkinsonism, and is used as a growth hormone suppressant in the treatment of acromegaly. Administered orally.
