intermittent positive pressure breathing(IPPB)
a form of respiratory care that uses a ventilator for the treatment of patients who have atelectasis, need occasional help breathing, or require certain aerosol medications. As the name implies, this involves application of pressure only when the person breathes in, in order to help
her or him breathe more deeply. It is used when other less expensive, less invasive forms of respiratory care have not been
effective. Called also intermittent positive pressure ventilation.
