surgeon assistant(SA) a physician assistant who provides diagnosis and treatment of patients under supervision of a surgeon, being able to perform tasks such as history taking, physical examination, assisting at surgery, invasive diagnostic tests, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. SAs are eligible for certification as Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C).
