immunity mediated by T lymphocytes, either through release of lymphokines or through causing cytotoxicity directly against unwanted substances. Examples of this type of immune response include type IV hypersensitivity reactions such as contact dermatitis, granulomatous disease, allograft rejection, graft-versus-host disease, and systemic responses to viral or microbial infections or to tumor cells.
