adenoid (adīә-noid) pharyngeal tonsil. pertaining to the pharyngeal tonsils or to hypertrophy of them. resembling a gland. (in the pl.) hypertrophy of the pharyngeal tonsils, usually seen in children; this may cause obstruction of the outlet from the nose so that the child breathes chiefly through the mouth, and the child has a typical adenoid facies.
