androgenesis (an″dro-jenĀ“ә-sis) a phenomenon in which after fertilization of an oocyte whose chromosomes are absent or inactivated, the haploid spermatozoon duplicates its own chromosomes after meiosis, so that the zygote contains only paternal chromosomes. This is often associated with complete molar pregnancies.
