pl. a´tria
a chamber affording entrance, especially one of the upper chambers on either side of the heart, which receive blood from the
body and transmit it to the ventricles.
Atria of the heart.
left atrium
the upper chamber of the left side of the heart, which collects blood from the pulmonary veins and transmits it to the left ventricle.
right atrium
the upper chamber of the right side of the heart, which collects blood from the upper and lower venae cavae and transmits it to the right ventricle.
