community health nurse a registered nurse whose work combines elements of both primary care nursing and public health practice and takes place mainly outside the therapeutic institution. Emphasis is on disease prevention and health promotion by measures such as early detection of disease and prompt intervention in cases of disease or high-risk behavior.
