(or″nĭ-tho´sis)
a term that has been used in various ways, including: (1) to replace the term psittacosis (originally thought to affect only
parrots); (2) to refer to Chlamydia psittaci infection in other birds, with the term psittacosis being reserved for infection in parrots and humans; and (3) to refer
to Chlamydia psittaci infection in all birds, with the term psittacosis being reserved for human infection.
