panhypopituitarism (pan-hi″po-pĭ-tooŽĭ-tә-riz-әm) generalized hypopituitarism due to absence of or damage to the pituitary gland; in its complete form it leads to absence of gonadal function, loss of secondary sex characters, and insufficiency of thyroid and adrenal function. When cachexia is a prominent feature, it is called Simmonds disease.
