plug (plug)   an obstructing mass.
 

epithelial plug  a mass of ectodermal cells that temporarily closes an opening in the fetus, particularly in the external nares.
  a mass of epithelium clogging or obstructing an opening.

mucous plug  a plug formed by secretions of mucous glands of the cervix uteri and closing the cervical canal during pregnancy.
  abnormally thick mucus occluding the bronchi and bronchioles, as in asthma or bronchopulmonary aspergillosis.
