enterobiasis (en″ter-o-biŽә-sis) infection with nematodes of the genus Enterobius, especially E. vermicularis (the pinworm). Symptoms are few and mild; adult pinworms migrate to the anal region, usually at night, and deposit eggs, which cause irritation of the skin around the anus, leading to painful scratching and restless sleep. Called also oxyuriasis.
