saturated fatty acid fatty acids that do not have any double bonds. They occur mainly in animal fats and tropical oils, and they can be produced by modifying unsaturated fatty acids. Fats composed of saturated fatty acids increase serum low-density lipoproteins and blood cholesterol levels.
