creatinine clearance the volume of plasma cleared of creatinine in a unit of time by the kidney system. Since creatinine is normally produced in fairly constant amounts as a result of the breakdown of phosphocreatine and is excreted in the urine, an elevation in levels of it in the blood indicates a disturbance in kidney function.
