Self-Assessment
A depressed person often has cloudy thinking and a hard time making decisions. These questions have been designed to help you determine if you're depressed and should seek professional help. Or, if someone else seems depressed, ask him or her a few of these questions: it can open the door to communication and break through the isolation a depressed person may feel. This test isn't a substitute for a professional evaluation, but it is a powerful first step in assessing depression.
Have you felt any of these symptoms consistently over the past two weeks? Symptoms are adapted from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Third Edition Revised (American Psychiatric Association, 1987).
