What Are Cataracts? A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye. The normally clear lens lets light enter the eye. As it becomes cloudy, less light enters and vision becomes blurry. Cataracts are common with age and can occur in one or both eyes. The clouding of the lens usually happens slowly over time. But it can happen quickly.
