Why Worry About Diabetes?

Diabetes Can Hurt Your Body
  • Diabetes keeps your body from turning food into energy.
  • Diabetes can cause problems with your eyes and kidneys. It can also hurt your heart and blood vessels.

Diabetes Won't Go Away
  • Once you get diabetes, it won't go away. But you can control it.

It's Up to You to Control Diabetes
  • Eat right, exercise, and lose any extra weight.
  • You may also need to take medicine. Follow your doctor's advice.
  • Ask your healthcare provider how to prevent or limit the effects of diabetes on your body.
  • Carry a card or wear a bracelet that says you have diabetes.
  • Monitor your blood sugar and know your target range.
