Type 1 diabetes is also known as insulin-dependent diabetes. This type of diabetes keeps your body from using blood sugar (also called blood glucose) as energy. As a result, your blood sugar gets too high. To keep your blood sugar under control, you need to take the following steps:
Test Your Blood Sugar You need to test your blood sugar each day. This tells you whether your blood sugar is within your target range.
Take Your Insulin Your body needs insulin to turn blood sugar into energy. When you have type 1 diabetes, your body doesn't make insulin. So, you need to take it several times each day.
