What this drug is used for

Cheracol D liquid helps quiet dry, hacking coughs and helps loosen phlegm.

How should you take this medication?

* ADULTS

For adults and children 12 and over, the usual dose is 2 teaspoonfuls every 4 hours. Do not take more than 12 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours.

* CHILDREN

For children 6 to 12, the usual dosage is 1 teaspoonful every 4 hours. Do not give children this age more than 6 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours. For children under 6, consult a doctor.

Do not take this medication if...

Unless your doctor approves, do not use Cheracol D for the type of chronic cough that results from smoking, asthma, or emphysema, or for a cough that brings up lots of phlegm.

Special warnings about this medication

If your cough lasts more than 1 week without getting better, or goes away and comes back, check with your doctor. Also call your doctor if you develop a high fever, a rash, or a headache that doesn't improve.

Possible food and drug interactions when taking this medication

Do not use Cheracol D within 2 weeks of taking a drug classified as an MAO inhibitor, including the antidepressants Nardil and Parnate.
