Citrucel and Unifiber provide additional fiber (bulk) to the diet, thus relieving constipation.
They can be used for constipation associated with irritable bowel syndrome, diverticular disease (a pouch in the wall of the bowel), and hemorrhoids. They will also help keep bowel movements regular after surgery or delivery, and during convalescence.
Citrucel powder comes in regular and sugar-free forms, and is available in bulk containers and single-dose packets. Unifiber is available only in containers. Citrucel is also available in caplet form.

Avoid both these products if you have an intestinal blockage or a fecal impaction. Do not take Citrucel if you have any trouble swallowing, or the product gives you an allergic reaction.
Unless your doctor approves, do not use either of these products if you have nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain, or if you've noticed a sudden change in bowel habits lasting 2 weeks or more.
Always take Citrucel with plenty of fluid. Otherwise, it could swell, block your throat, and make you choke.
If you develop chest pain, have trouble swallowing or breathing, or start vomiting after a dose of Citrucel, call your doctor immediately.
If you notice rectal bleeding or fail to have a bowel movement after taking one of these products, stop using it and call your doctor.
Do not take Citrucel for more than 1 week without your doctor's approval. If you must avoid phenylalanine, do not use Sugar-free Citrucel.
