What this drug is used for

Otrivin and Natru-Vent give temporary relief from stuffy nose brought on by a cold, inflamed sinuses, and allergies such as hay fever. Otrivin is available as a nasal spray, nasal drops, and pediatric nasal drops. Natru-Vent is a nasal spray available in adult and pediatric strengths.

How should you take this medication?

* OTRIVIN

The usual dosage is 2 or 3 sprays or drops in each nostril no more often than every 8 to 10 hours. For children under 12, give only the pediatric drops, using the dropper provided. For children under 2, consult your doctor.

* NATRU-VENT

The usual dosage is 1 spray in each nostril every 8 to 10 hours. Use the adult strength for adults and children over 12. Use the pediatric strength for children 2 to 12 years old. For children under 2 consult your doctor.

* STORAGE

Store at room temperature.

Do not take this medication if...

Unless your doctor approves, avoid these products if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, or an enlarged prostate gland.

Special warnings about this medication

These products may cause temporary burning, stinging, or sneezing, and may worsen a runny nose.

Do not use these products for more than 3 days. If you use them longer or more frequently than recommended, your stuffy nose may return or get worse. If you feel no improvement, call your doctor.

Do not use a container of this product for more than 1 person. Sharing a container could spread infection.

Overdosage

In a young child, an overdose can cause abnormal calmness (sedation). If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
