What this drug is used for

These liquid gelcaps contain the same cough-suppressing ingredient found in syrups such as Delsym, Robitussin Cough Suppressant, and Vicks 44 Cough Relief. They provide temporary relief of cough due to sore throat or irritated bronchial tubes, as brought on by the common cold.

How should you take this medication?

The usual dose for adults and children 12 and over is 1 gelcap every 6 to 8 hours. Do not take more than 4 gelcaps each 24 hours.

Do not take this medication if...

Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, do not use these products for cough due to smoking, asthma, or emphysema, or for coughs that bring up a lot of phlegm. Not for children under 12.

Special warnings about this medication

A persistent cough may be a sign of a serious illness. If you have a cough that lasts for more than 1 week, goes away and comes back, or is accompanied by a fever, rash, or long-lasting headache, call your doctor.

Possible food and drug interactions when taking this medication

Do not use any of these products within 2 weeks of taking a drug classified as an MAO inhibitor, including the antidepressants Nardil and Parnate.
